Nominations for both the Rozsa Award for Excellence in Arts Management and the Rozsa Award for Excellence in Board Leadership are now open.
The Rozsa Awards were created to honour the philanthropic efforts of Drs. Ted and Lola Rozsa and are unique in the country in recognizing, celebrating, and promoting the profession of arts management and the dedication of board chairs. Recipients of the Rozsa Awards receive a monetary prize and public profile, along with consultation, services, and professional development benefits provided by the Rozsa Awards Partners.
The Rozsa Award for Excellence in Arts Management
The Rozsa Award for Excellence in Arts Management celebrates an Executive, Managing Director, General Manager, or CEO who has shown excellence in leading an Alberta-based arts organization that is a registered charity with a budget of at least $500k. Their leadership is evaluated on criteria such as the development of a sustainable business model that ensures the long-term financial health of the organization, the encouragement of artistic innovation, specifically in the context of achieving positive operating results, powerful community engagement and audience development that advances the organization’s relationship with the public, and more.
“The benefits of the award have touched every corner of my organization providing immediate and long-term payback and have also enhanced my capacity as an effective member of the cultural sector."
Marilyn Smith 2011 Rozsa Award for Excellence in Arts Management recipient
"Being honoured with the 2018 Rozsa Award for Excellence in Arts Management came at a crucial implementation phase of Wordfest's ongoing Business Model Revitalization project, funded in part by a Rozsa Foundation grant. We can now work with the various Rozsa Award partners on opportunities that would have been unimaginable without the audience and branding research and operational upgrades that we began in 2018. We're so grateful at how well every aspect of the Rozsa Foundation's support continues to align with our new strategic plan; it's given us essential tools to continue to innovate within the cultural sector."

The Rozsa Award for Excellence in Board Leadership
The Rozsa Award for Excellence in Board Leadership celebrates a Board Chair who has shown excellence in leading the Board of Directors of an Alberta-based arts organization that is a registered charity with a budget of at least $500k, has been volunteering with the affiliated arts organization for a minimum of three years, and been in the leadership position as Board Chair of the organization for at least one year. The Board Chair leads through the effective relationship they have with the rest of the board, executive director, artistic director, members, funders, and public, and through the effective practices they put in place.
“Being recognized with this award is truly a validation for the passion and high level of professionalism that is part of being a leader. It bestows authenticity. An award that honours excellence in a board leader serves to raise the profile of that work, and sets a high bar for which all board members may strive. I see this award not only as a recruiting tool, but as a means to elevate our next and newest board members, all across the arts sector.”
